Mount Hebron High to pay tribute with `Godspell'

Mount Hebron High School drama department will perform the musical Godspell at 7 p.m. Nov. 14, 15, 16 and 17 in the school auditorium.

The cast and crew have dedicated the performances to the memory of Doug Dellinger, a 2005 graduate who was killed Aug. 15 in an car accident.

"He was a wonderful young man who was admired by so many," wrote drama teacher Thomas L. Sankey in an e-mail. "He was in many of my school shows and was enthusiastic, positive and a joy to be around."

The show, which includes a cast of 15, is directed by Sankey.

Laughter therapy -- Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will sponsor "Laughter - The Best Medicine" for those ages 55 and older from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kiwanis Wallas Recreation Center in Ellicott City. Laughter-based exercises are said to strengthen the immune system, lower blood pressure and promote emotional healing. The program is not based on joke-telling. Line dancing -- A Beginner Plus Country Line Dancing class for those ages 55 and older is offered at Ellicott City Senior Center from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays, through Nov. 21. Wear leather-soled shoes (no sneakers) to the class. There is a fee. 410-313-7279.

Chess club -- The Elkridge library, 6540 Washington Blvd., will hold a chess club for those ages 13 and older from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Players of all abilities are welcome, but they must know how to play chess. Snacks provided. Registration is not needed. 410-313-5077.

Learning English -- The Miller branch library offers an English conversation club from 7:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Wednesdays for people who speak English as a second language and would like to practice conversation in a group setting. First-time participants must register in advance. 410-313-1950.

Homework help -- The Elkridge library, 6540 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, will offer help with homework or research projects for students ages 11 to 14 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 5. Snacks provided; registration required.
