Uncorked And Clever

October 21, 2007|By [LIZ ATWOOD]

A new wine-making season is upon us in Maryland, and it's time to pop the cork (or unscrew the cap) on some of past years' vintages. Here are some new gadgets wine lovers are sure to like:

1. The Houdini corkscrew by Metrokane

Price:

$30

Where to get it:

Department stores, wine shops and online retailers. Visit metrokane.com for a list of stores.

Why we like it:

Push down, pull up and the cork is out of the bottle. Push down, pull up again and the cork is off the corkscrew. The Houdini comes in a variety of colors, and each is packaged in a gift box that contains a foil cutter and an extra spiral.

2. STORViNO modular wine storage system

Price:

$19.99 per unit

Where to get it:

Target and online. Go to storvino.com for a list of retailers.

Why we like it:

Made of strong yet lightweight plastic, each unit holds six standard-sized wine bottles, with room for three more bottles on the top. The units easily connect to each other and can be turned upright for transporting wine.

3. Ecco Domani wine totes

Price:

$10 to $55

Where to get it:

eccodomani.com

Why we like it:

The limited-edition totes can pass as chic handbags, but they carry one or two bottles of wine.
