Halloween party for kids planned at fire hall

The Savage Volunteer Fire Company's Ladies Auxiliary will sponsor a Halloween costume party from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the fire hall, 6925 Lincoln St., Savage.

A costume parade is planned. The cost is $5 for children ages 5 to 11. Games and prizes, hot dogs, chips, drinks, cupcakes and cookies are included in the price.

A craft and vendor show will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 1 at the fire hall. Lunch and bake-table treats will be available for purchase.

The cost to exhibitors is $20 for an eight-foot table; two tables for $35.

Proceeds will benefit the volunteer fire company's ladies auxiliary.

Holiday craft fair Nov. 11 in Laurel

The South Laurel Recreation Council will hold its 32nd annual holiday craft fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Deerfield Run Community Center, 13000 Laurel-Bowie Road, Laurel.

Artists and artisans will display and sell their work, and accept commissions. Door prizes, refreshments, bake sales and lunch will be available. Registration will be open for the council's holiday workshops, being held in December for children, teens, adults and families.

Admission and parking are free. A free shuttle bus will run from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from the Towne Centre Shopping Center to the craft fair.

Teens are invited to help with 'Zine

The Savage branch library, 9525 Durness Lane, invites teens ages 13 to 17 to add their voices to an online newsletter written by teens for teens.

Those interested in participating in Teen 'Zine will meet from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 7 at the library. Registration is not required.

Registration begins Friday for "Fun with Pumpkins and Gourds," a program for children ages 5 to 10 at the library. Participants can learn about growing pumpkins and see how to decorate them creatively and keep them fresh.

The program will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 2, when Howard County schools are scheduled to be closed.

"Chanbara Excitement," a karate program with Kevin McMurtry, will be offered at 7 p.m. Nov. 20. The 45-minute program is for ages 6 to 10. Registration begins Nov. 13.
