Ravens Weekend

Jared Gaither, 21, is set to make his second career start at left offensive tackle Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. But the football phenom was a two-sport star who still yearns to play basketball.

You were a Division I recruit in basketball who had orally committed to South Carolina before deciding to concentrate on football. Do you miss basketball?

Yeah. We have guys like Chad [Steele, the team's director of media relations who was a power forward at Winthrop] who think they can play basketball. [He glances at Steele standing in the middle of the locker room.] If Coach Billick and the higher powers allow me, I'll challenge him after the year to a nice game of one-on-one. The following ESPN ticker would read: "Chad has suffered bad bruises and sprains - you can tell him this - due to brutal beatings by Jared Gaither."

If you could challenge one NBA player - past or present - to a game of one-on-one, who would it be?

That's hard because Shaq [Shaquille O'Neal] is my idol, but [Michael] Jordan is the greatest. But I would probably play against Shaq. A little one-on-one between me and The Diesel. I would score, so I'm not worried about that.

What was your go-to meal at the University of Maryland dining halls?

Salad. No, seriously. A turkey sandwich and a salad. That's what I would always get.

What's your favorite show on TV right now?

Family Guy. Stewie is so funny. My favorite episode is when Brian the dog owes Stewie the baby some money.
