Jeanne E. Rand, 74

Lawn service founder

October 17, 2007

Jeanne E. Rand, a lawn service founder, died of pulmonary fibrosis Thursday at her Dundalk home. She was 74.

Born Jeanne E. Shevenell in Biddeford, Maine, where she was raised and educated, she moved to the Baltimore area after her 1955 marriage to Sidney W. Rand.

Mrs. Rand was a founder and former owner of Rand's Lawn Service Inc., a business she started with family members in 1989. At her death, she was chief financial officer. She had worked previously for the former Home Federal Savings and Loan in Dundalk.

She was a member of the Ateaze Senior Center. Mrs. Rand sang with the local Sweet Adelines group, and was a home seamstress and a square-dancing enthusiast.

Family members said she combined both of those talents and made the rounds on the square-dancing circuit in dresses she made.

A Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 6736 Youngstown Ave., where she was a member. She had previously belonged to Christ the King parish.

Survivors include two sons, Steven S. Rand of Rosedale and James J. Rand of Millersville; and three grandchildren. Her marriage ended in divorce.
