St. James' assistant rector

The Rev. Eileen C. House, assistant rector at St. James' Episcopal Parish in Lothian, died of Wegener's disease Oct. 9 at University of Maryland Medical Center. She was 51 and lived on the parish grounds.

Born in Baltimore and raised in the Parkville area, she was home-schooled and attended Parkville High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola College.

She was a respiratory therapist at the University of Maryland Medical Center before earning a master's degree from Yale Divinity School. Bishop A. Theodore Eastman ordained her in 1991.

At her ordination, she became assistant rector at St. James' Episcopal Parish.

"She was dearly loved by our congregation," said the church's pastor, the Rev. William Ticknor. "She was an excellent preacher and a very compassionate pastor to many."

Ms. House trained dogs and worked with a Labrador retriever rescue group. She enjoyed reading and writing.

A requiem Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James' Episcopal Church, 5757 Solomons Island Road.

Survivors include her cousins.
