Roadwork to close Route 32 lanes

The State Highway Administration is working to relieve congestion and improve safety along Route 32 at Burntwoods Road by constructing a $30 million interchange that will require lane closures.

About 31,000 vehicles travel daily in the Route 32 corridor between Interstate 70 and Route 108.

The new interchange will remove two traffic signals at Burntwoods and Ten Oaks roads, and relocate several private driveways and local roads that access Route 32 directly. Route 32 and Burntwoods Road will be relocated and a roundabout, ramps, a bridge and a new access will be added.

Motorists can expect single-lane closures along Route 32 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., and between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday through Friday. Single-lane closures may also occur along Ten Oaks Road, Pfefferkorn Road, and Burntwoods Road between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Traffic drums, signs and cones will guide motorists through the work zone.

The contract has been awarded to Kibler Construction Co. of Finksburg. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2009.
