Gilman spoils homecoming for Spalding

Reed Parkinson and Jordan Love each scored two touchdowns as visiting Gilman defeated No. 11 Archbishop Spalding, 55-19, last night at Spalding's homecoming.

The Greyhounds (3-3), of the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference, returned the opening kickoff 50 yards, then scored on Love's 9-yard touchdown run. Gilman led 14-0 after eight minutes and 28-0 before the Cavaliers (4-2), of the MIAA B Conference, scored.

Gilman's Derrick Burnett threw two touchdown passes, and Mimmo Cricchio went five-for-six on extra points.

No. 3 Dunbar 49, Lake Clifton 0 -- Tavon Austin carried five times for 137 yards and two touchdowns for the visiting Poets (6-0). Sean Farr added three catches for 127 yards for Dunbar. Defensively for the Poets, Keon Redhead made 10 tackles and Richard Chavis had a 17-yard fumble return.

Poly 30, Mervo 9 -- Lee Reynolds had two rushing and two receiving touchdowns as the Engineers (6-0) defeated the host Mustangs (4-2) to remain unbeaten. "We played with great intensity and showed a lot of character," Poly coach Roger Wrenn said. "It was a great team victory for us." Reynolds finished with 203 yards rushing on 26 carries and three receptions for 63 yards. Poly quarterback Tyrae Reed was 7-of-8 for 90 yards and two touchdowns. Linebacker Michael Wadsworth had five tackles and two fumble recoveries for Poly, which will play Thursday at home against Dunbar, which is also undefeated.

Archbishop Curley 36, St. Vincent Pallotti 13 -- Jerome Junior had eight carries for 132 yards and three touchdowns to lead the visiting Friars (4-3) over the Panthers (1-5). Curley had 372 rushing yards and four touchdowns. The Friars return to action next week at home against St. Mary's.

Digital Harbor 14, Forest Park 6 -- Anthony Drumgolle had 15 carries for 100 yards, and Terrell Bond had nine carries for 60 yards as the Rams (5-1) defeated the host Foresters (4-2). Digital Harbor had two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

St. Paul's 13, John Carroll 7 -- With 24 seconds left the Crusaders (4-3) completed a four-down goal-line stand to deny the Patriots (1-5) their second victory of the season. Chris Wilson ran for 56 yards on 12 carries and one touchdown while Sherrod Davis had two catches for 43 yards and a touchdown in the winning effort. St. Paul's plays Spalding Friday.

City 39, Patterson 20 -- Stephen Johnson had an interception and rushed 22 times for 228 yards and a touchdown as the Knights (4-2) defeated the Clippers (1-5). City's defense recorded two other interceptions in the win. They play Walbrook on Thursday at home.

North Carroll 33, Winters Mill 14 -- Stefan Mitchell had 96 rushing yards, 225 passing yards and five touchdowns to lead the Panthers (6-0) over the Falcons yesterday. Zach Westfall added five receptions for 109 yards and two touchdowns, and Eric Kunz had two receptions, both for touchdowns. No. 15 North Carroll plays next week at Thomas Johnson.
