Late goal carries Calvert Hall over Severna Park, 2-1, in soccer

Joe Jones scored the game-winner on a crossing header pass by Makala Hairston with 15 minutes left as the No. 3 Calvert Hall boys soccer team edged visiting No. 7 Severna Park, 2-1, yesterday.

Brian Payne gave the Cardinals (9-5-1) a 1-0 lead at the 24-minute mark of the first half.

Alex Garrity tied the game for the Falcons (7-3) 12 minutes before Jones's second-half goal. Calvert Hall plays No. 1 McDonogh on Wednesday.

No. 4 Archbishop Curley 5, Gilman 1 -- Bash Kamara had two goals and an assist to lead the visiting Friars (14-2) past the Greyhounds. Gilman led 1-0 at the half before Curley scored three goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Christian Hall made four saves for Curley and Gilman's John Connolly had three.


No. 12 Archbishop Spalding 31, John Carroll 6 -- Evan Hockel scored touchdowns rushing and receiving to power the host Cavaliers (4-1) past the Patriots (1-4). Hockel finished with 11 carries for 65 yards and two receptions for 26 yards. Quarterback Kevin Moran went 8-for-9 for 130 yards and two touchdowns.
