Games To Watch

October 07, 2007|By RICH SCHERR

South Carroll @ No. 15 Century

WHEN -- Tuesday, 4 p.m.

OUTLOOK -- These Rt. 26 neighbors meet in a Monocacy Valley Athletic League, Antietam Conference match that could help determine the conference champion. The Cavaliers are off to a 7-2 start heading into Tuesday's play, with senior Brooke Wheeler leading the county with seven goals. Century has won three straight after starting 3-3, and last year edged South Carroll by a goal.

In the Lions Den

WHEN -- Wednesday, 4 p.m.

WHERE -- Liberty

OUTLOOK -- About two dozen schools will take part in this fast-growing meet. Among them will be top 10 teams, including River Hill, Francis Scott Key, Severna Park and Oakland Mills boys, and Severna Park, Century and South Carroll girls. The race carries extra significance for the five schools from the Blue Ridge Conference, which holds its championship meet on the course nine days later.

No. 14 Liberty @ No. 15 Century

WHEN -- Thursday, 6:30 p.m.

OUTLOOK -- In a game with county title implications, both teams will be trying to re-establish their dominance after recent shaky play. Century started 4-0 before losing to Tuscarora and North Hagerstown, and Liberty had won four straight prior to last week's 3-1 loss to Winters Mill.

Winters Mill @ North Carroll

WHEN -- Friday, 7

OUTLOOK -- Considered a playoff contender heading into this season, Winters Mill can make a strong move in that direction with a win over North Carroll. The Panthers, however, may have one of their best teams in school history, winning their first four games.
