Man, 25, gets time served in Ellicott City stabbing

October 03, 2007|By Melissa Harris

A Howard County Circuit Court judge this week sentenced a Columbia man to time served in the stabbing of a Glen Burnie man with a beer bottle outside La Palapa restaurant in Ellicott City.

In July, a jury acquitted Euginio Boyate, 25, of attempted first- and second-degree murder charges in the October 2005 incident but could not reach a verdict on the lesser first-degree assault charge.

Boyate, of the 5800 block of Stevens Forest Road, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge Monday before Judge Diane O. Leasure. Boyate had been in jail for 342 days.

The beer bottle lacerated Marcel Camacho's heart and stomach, which required immediate surgery at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, according to court records.
