Sister Ann Bernadette

[ Age 91 ] Nun served for 45 years at Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg.

Sister Ann Bernadette Cafferty, a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia who spent 45 years at Mount St. Mary's College, died of cancer Thursday at her order's retirement home in Aston, Pa. She was 91.

Born Bernadette Theresa Cafferty in Baltimore and raised in East Baltimore, she entered her congregation in 1935 and took the name Ann Bernadette.

She did domestic work for her order at Immaculate Conception Convent in Elkton and moved to Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg in 1939, where she worked and was a driver for students and seminarians until 1984. From 1985 to 2005, she lived at St. Anthony's Convent in Gardenville and was a driver for the sisters in retirement there.

She retired in 2005.

A Mass was offered yesterday at Assisi House in Aston.

She leaves no immediate survivors.
