College offers help with health careers

Cecil College will hold a free information session about training options for careers in the allied health field from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Room 326 of Elkton Station.

The college offers full-time and part-time training programs for medical assistants and receptionists, medical coders and billers, dental assistants, medicine aides, certified nursing assistants and phlebotomists.

Full-time programs can be completed in less than a year.

Cecil College plans Philadelphia trip

Cecil College is observing Constitution Day with a bus trip to Philadelphia to visit the National Constitution Center, Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell on Wednesday.

The cost is $20 and includes bus fare and admission to all three attractions.

The bus will leave Cecil's North East campus at 8 a.m. and leave Philadelphia at 4 p.m. Reservations are first come, first served.

Pre-GED advice offered by college

Harford Community College will offer pre-GED advising sessions for adults who want to improve their basic reading, writing or math skills.

Free Adult Basic Education review classes or one-on-one literacy tutoring programs for beginning readers are available.

Advising sessions will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at the college's Edgewood Hall and Havre de Grace High School; Oct. 9 at Edgewood High School and North Harford High School; and 10 a.m. Oct. 9 at the Edgewood public library.

Attendance at an advising session is required for entry into classes.

ESL advising sessions planned

Harford Community College will offer advising sessions for English as a second language.

ESL is for people born in other countries who are 16 or older and would like to improve English skills, including listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Advising sessions will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at Edgewood High School.

Free beginning and intermediate classes begin every six weeks. Attendance at an advising session is required for entry into the classes.

Honor society selling flower bulbs

Cecil College's Alpha Alpha Theta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society of the Two Year College is selling fall-planting flower bulbs, including several varieties of narcissus, tulips, iris and hyacinth, until Oct. 15.

Kits for amaryllis and paperwhites are included. Bulbs should be delivered in late October.

Proceeds will be used to pay for The New York Times and USA Today, which are delivered daily during the fall and spring terms.

Bulbs can be donated to the Meeting Ground Shelter on Delaware Avenue in Elkton.
