Chronically curious contributor Donald Gansauer writes from Baltimore, this time with a drought question: "The last drought in Maryland was in 2003. Do droughts occur in predictable cycles?" The last severe drought in Maryland was in 2001-2002. Some say that was a resumption of the drought of 1998-1999. If so, you might argue for a roughly 34-year cycle, beginning in 1930-1931 and including the drought of 1964-1965. But then you'd have to account for 1985-1986 and 2007-??. It all gets very messy.
