VOLLEYBALL

No. 13 F.S. Key @ Liberty

WHEN -- Tuesday, 6:15 p.m.

OUTLOOK -- This season, Francis Scott Key has eclipsed eight-time defending champion Liberty as the team to beat in Carroll County. Now the Eagles have an opportunity to make it official. Last season, the Eagles avenged a county loss to the Lions with a best-of-three win in the Thomas Johnson Tournament. Hitter Christine Isenberg and setter Lauren Tracey lead the Eagles, while hitter Kelly Vieira paces Liberty.

FOOTBALL

Winters Mill @ Westminster

WHEN -- Friday, 7 p.m.

OUTLOOK -- Another large crowd is expected for this annual meeting of cross-town rivals, as the Falcons and Owls battle for early season position. Westminster has won each of the past two meetings by a combined score of 69-20. Both teams started 1-1, with RB Hunter Smith averaging more than 100 yards rushing for the Westminster Owls, and QB Ben Love throwing for nearly 500 yards for the Falcons.

CROSS COUNTRY

Bull Run Invitational @ Hereford

WHEN -- Saturday, 9 a.m.

OUTLOOK -- Every Carroll County team, including the No. 5 Francis Scott Key boys, No. 7 Century girls and No. 10 South Carroll girls, will take part in this prestigious event at the site of the state cross country championships. A year ago, South Carroll swept both the boys and girls championships in the small- school division, while the Francis Scott Key boys took runner-up to Wilde Lake in the medium-school division.
