Anna J. Kovasznay, a retired librarian and teacher, died of cancer Thursday at Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care in Towson. She was 87.
The former Anna J. Frenyo was born and raised in Budapest, Hungary, where she earned an undergraduate degree.
She was married in 1944 to Leslie S.G. Kovasznay. In 1947, the couple immigrated to Baltimore.
Mrs. Kovasznay earned a master's degree from the Johns Hopkins University in the 1950s and a master's degree in library science from the Catholic University of America in the 1960s.
She taught at the Garrison Forest School during the 1950s and was a librarian at Johns Hopkins from 1966 until the early 1970s.
Her husband, a professor of aeronautics and fluid mechanics at Hopkins, died in 1980.
Mrs. Kovasznay, who had lived in the Highfield House in Guilford, had been a resident at Blakehurst retirement community in Towson since 2003.
She was an avid traveler and enjoyed cooking and entertaining.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Druid Ridge Cemetery, 7900 Park Heights Ave.
Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Beatrice M. Kovasznay of Albany, N.Y.; and a brother, Ede Frenyo of Budapest.
