Scott in the running to get playing time

September 17, 2007|By Heather Dinich

Just got off the Sunday teleconference with Ralph Friedgen, and a few interesting things came out of it.

Ralph said after the West Virginia game he wants to get Da'Rel Scott in more, and he said it again today.

Acknowledging it will be tough with Keon Lattimore and Lance Ball ahead of Scott, Friedgen said he might have Scott return kicks.

" ... I was really planning on playing him more Saturday," Friedgen said. "I think what we have to do with Da'Rel is get a little package for him so he could handle it mentally and then see what he could do."

Unlike the fans who had meltdowns on the message boards (and here) after the game, Ralph said he was not discouraged by what the team did against West Virginia.

"After I looked at the film, I was probably encouraged on both sides of the ball. I thought our kids gave great effort the whole game. Like I said after the game, you keep that team on the field too long and they're going to pop a few on you.

"I think we'll grow and learn from this game."
