Matchup -- No. 4 West Virginia (2-0) at Maryland (2-0)

Time -- 7:45

TV/Radio -- ESPN/105.7 FM, 1300 AM

Line -- West Virginia by 16 1/2

Series -- West Virginia leads, 22-21-2.

Last meeting -- West Virginia won, 45-28, on Sept. 14, 2006, in Morgantown.

Maryland offense vs. West Virginia defense -- Quarterback Jordan Steffy has yet to throw a touchdown pass, but the Mountaineers' pass defense has come under scrutiny as it is ranked No. 94 among Bowl Subdivision teams, allowing 255.5 yards per game. Their run defense, though, is a different story. West Virginia is holding opponents to 76.5 rushing yards per game and 2.4 per carry. Linebacker Reed Williams leads the team with 23 tackles. The Terps have been relying on a running game led by Keon Lattimore, who is averaging 108.5 rushing yards and has scored five rushing touchdowns. The Terps will have to control the clock and not commit turnovers to have a chance at an upset.

Maryland defense vs. West Virginia offense -- Not only do the Terps have the huge task of slowing running back Steve Slaton and quarterback Patrick White, but they also have to be concerned about bruising fullback/tight end Owen Schmitt, who blocks for them, and senior receiver Darius Reynaud. Reynaud has 14 catches for 226 yards and two touchdowns this season. The Terps top the Atlantic Coast Conference in total defense (175 yards per game) and rank second in pass defense (128.5 ypg) and scoring defense (12 points per game), but they've faced much weaker opponents.
