Polly N. Kearney, 87

Licensed practical nurse

September 13, 2007

Polly N. Kearney, a retired licensed practical nurse, died Monday of heart and kidney failure at Rose Manor, an Ellicott City assisted-living facility. She was 87.

Born and raised in Franklinton, N.C., she moved to Baltimore in 1939 to study nursing at the old Baltimore City Hospitals, now Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

She worked at the hospital from 1940 to 1957, when she went to work at Bon Secours Hospital.

She retired in 1982.

Miss Kearney lived on Parkton Street in West Baltimore for 30 years before moving to Perry Hall in 1994. Since 2002, she had lived at the assisted-living facility.

She enjoyed reading, traveling and solving crossword puzzles.

She was an avid fan of the Ravens and of the Colts before they moved out of Baltimore.

Plans for a memorial service in Franklinton were incomplete yesterday.

Surviving are a son, Thomas "Tony" W. Kearney of Catonsville; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
