Tai Sophia board elects Mills

Simon Mills, an international authority on herbal medicine, has been elected to the board of trustees of Tai Sophia Institute, a graduate educational institution in North Laurel.

Mills, who will serve a three-year term as a member of the board, founded the institute's master of science in herbal medicine program and was its first director from 2000 to 2006.

He is a director of Plant Medicine CIC, a new international educational resource for health care professionals and the public. Tai Sophia Institute is a partner in the enterprise.

Mills, president of the British Herbal Medicine Association, has practiced as a medical herbalist since 1977. He is co-founder of the Centre for Complementary Health Studies at the University of Exeter, England.

Since 1997, Mills has been secretary of the European Scientific Cooperative on Phytotherapy, an agency working with European regulators to ensure the quality, safety and efficacy of herbal medicines.

Schools foundation appoints Brown

Paul G. Brown, executive vice president of Howard Bank, has been appointed to the board of the Howard County Public School Educational Foundation.

The foundation promotes excellence in county public schools by encouraging community financial support for initiatives that cannot be included in the school system budget.
