Owen S. Jacobs, an executive with a Massachusetts software company and former Roland Park resident, died of a heart attack Sept. 4 in Sudbury, Mass. He was 38.

Mr. Jacobs had just finished exercising at a Sudbury gym when he suffered a fatal heart attack after returning to his car, said his father, E. Neil Jacobs of Rodgers Forge.

Mr. Jacobs was born in Baltimore and raised in Roland Park. He was a 1987 graduate of the Gilman School and earned a bachelor's degree in history from Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va.

"After college, he worked in sales and marketing jobs in the software industry. For the past 15 years, he was director of strategic alliances in the research and development department at Kronos Corp. in North Hampton," his father said.

Mr. Jacobs was an Eagle Scout and had been a member of Troop 35 at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer.

Since 1995, he had lived in Sudbury, where he coached in youth lacrosse leagues and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.

He enjoyed fly-fishing out West and waterfowl hunting on the Eastern Shore with his father.

A memorial service was held Thursday in Sudbury.

Also surviving are his wife of eight years, the former Catherine Pinto; a 4-year-old daughter, Charlotte Calderwood Jacobs; his mother, Gwendolyn Jacobs of Richmond, Va.; a brother, Christopher N. Jacobs of San Marino, Calif.; his paternal grandfather, Ernest R. Jacobs of Mount Pleasant, Pa.; and his stepmother, Wendy E. Jacobs of Rodgers Forge.
