Red Sox update

After completing their longest road trip of 2007, and being swept by the New York Yankees, the Red Sox are eager to return home. Their lead in the American League East is down to five games. They have been in first place for the past 135 days beginning April 18, their longest stretch since 1995. Mike Lowell has a 12-game hitting streak. The Red Sox's bullpen allowed three earned runs in its past 28 innings before yesterday, when left-hander Hideki Okajima surrendered three. The Orioles miss Boston's Big Three of Daisuke Matsuzaka, Josh Beckett and Curt Schilling. Julian Tavarez is expected to make tomorrow's start. They also could miss left fielder Manny Ramirez, whose status is in doubt because of a strained left oblique.
