Road to arts -- The Howard County Arts Council's 18th annual Road to the Arts weekend, Sept. 7 to 9, encourages residents to explore the visual arts at 13 Howard County galleries celebrating their exhibitions with receptions. The event starts with an opening reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Howard County Center for the Arts, 8510 High Ridge Road, Ellicott City (410-313-ARTS).

Receptions to be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Howard County Department of Education, Ellicott City (410-313-6634); Artists' Gallery, Columbia (410-740-8249); Gallery f64, Ellicott City (410-480-9004); and Art & Artisan, Ellicott City, (410-203-9370).

The Rouse Company Foundation Gallery, Columbia, will hold a reception at 4 p.m. Sept. 7 (410-772-4189); Slayton House Gallery, Columbia, at 3 p.m. (410-730-3987).

Camelia A. Blackwell and Fred Shermer will show their work at the International Center For Artistic Development, Savage Mill, Savage, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 8 and 9 (301-604-4484).
