Authorities search area near home in Arundel

August 30, 2007

Anne Arundel County police and an FBI evidence recovery team searched the area near a ranch-style house on Wishing Rock Road in Pasadena for several hours yesterday. A police spokeswoman declined to reveal the reason for the search.

Area news outlets reported that a body had been found on the property.

"I don't know where they [reporters] got that information," said Sgt. Sara Schriver, the spokeswoman.

Schriver said an investigation was under way and that it was not a public safety concern.

"That's all I'm allowed to say," she said.

Authorities could not confirm reports at the scene that the skeletal remains of a girl who disappeared 30 years ago had been found.

A county-owned vehicle with a suction device was at the scene for more than an hour and left about 8 p.m. Several firefighters were also at the scene.

Capt. Harry Steiner, a spokesman for the county Fire Department, said, "I really don't know what the police are doing down there on Wishing Rock Road." Firefighters responded to a service call requesting that they assist the police, he said.

Residents of the area told a Sun reporter that authorities had been on the scene since 9 a.m. yesterday and remained there into the evening.
