Wolves play

The lowdown -- Local group Among Wolves' music is all over the place. Half the songs on its new album have dozens of instruments and vocal tracks bathed in reverb, and the other half are alt-country tunes complete with pedal steel riffs. The band will play most, if not all, of the album tonight at its CD release party at the 8x10. Junior League, the Herd of Main Street and Anchor open.

It came from the Ottobar

The lowdown -- Spice up Tuesday night with a couple of awesomely cheesy flicks at the Ottobar: Mysterious Monsters is a 1970s documentary about strange creatures such as Bigfoot, and Troll 2 is a horror flick from 1990 about man-eating beasts. Both showings are free.

Last Wave

The lowdown -- Saturday, nine bands will play as part of the Last Wave Fest at the Sidebar Tavern. The roster features experimental rock group the Gonzo Circus, indie rocker E. Joseph, garage rockers Pontiak, Cult Hero, Dorsal Fink and more.
