Community Yard Sale set Sept. 15 on River Hill streets

The River Hill Community Association will sponsor a Community Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 15, rain or shine.

The association will advertise the event and place signs in the community the day before the sale. Participating streets will be listed in local newspapers. Ribbons will be distributed for the street signs of participating streets.

A local charity collection truck will be available at the River Hill Pool from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 15 to dispose of items not sold. Household items that have to be installed and metal desks will not be accepted. All electrical items must be in good condition.

Those interested in participating should contact the village office (410-531-1749) by Sept. 10.

Drawing classes for home-schoolers

KidzArt, a fine-arts education program for children, is organizing fall drawing classes for home-schoolers in Columbia and western Howard County.

The six-week sessions for ages 5 to 11 begin the week of Sept. 17 at Kahler Hall in the Harper's Choice Village Center and Gethsemane Baptist Church, 14135 Burntwoods Road, Glenwood. The program is not affiliated with the church.

Classes at Gethsemane will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Sept. 20, 27 and Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25. Classes at Kahler Hall will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sept. 19, 26 and Oct. 3, 10, 17 and 24.

The cost is $70 for the six-class series, with a $5 discount for siblings. Professional-grade artist materials are used.

A parent helper assists the teacher in each class. Documentation is provided to home-schooling parents.

Flea market -- Glenwood Community Center, 2400 Route 97, Cooksville, will hold a Children's Flea Market from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 8 on the building's side parking lot. Children, parents and grandparents are invited to clean out toy boxes, closets and garages and sell or swap the contents. Outgrown clothing, toys, bikes, books, music, games and handmade crafts are welcome. Space will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are required a week before the event. The cost is $20, plus $5 for the use of a 6-foot-long table. Admission is free to shoppers. 410-313-4840.

Online newsletter -- The Glenwood library, 2350 Route 97, Cooksville, invites those ages 13 to 18 to add their voices to an online newsletter.
