Watermark Cruises honored for record

The Coast Guard, Sector Baltimore, has awarded Annapolis-based Watermark Cruises its Officer in Charge of Marine Inspections Award to honor the company's safety record over the five-year inspection cycle on the Annapolitan II.

The award is given to recognize those whose vessels can go five years without any deficiencies.

Watermark operates 11 inspected passenger vessels.

Golf tourney raises $23,000 for MDA

The Muscular Dystrophy Association raised nearly $23,000 for Jerry's Kids during the 19th annual Muscular Dystrophy Association, Sleep Inn and Comfort Inn Open golf tournament.

The event was held July 30 at the Queenstown Harbor Lakes and River golf course.

Since its inception, golf tournament proceeds have exceeded $400,000.

Chesapeake Underwater Sports will celebrate 20 years of continuous business in Eastport with an anniversary open house from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 8 at 416 Fourth St. The event is free.

Businesswomen's group set to meet

The Maryland Capital chapter of the American Business Women's Association will hold its monthly membership meeting from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Sheraton Barcel?, 173 Jennifer Road, Annapolis.

Highlights will include the approval of the 2007-08 budget, introduction of committee leaders and teams and the awarding of the chapter's Outright Grant.

Applications open for garden grants

Unity Gardens, a nonprofit organization that supports the building of community partnerships through the creation of greening projects, environmental enhancement and education in Anne Arundel County, is accepting applications for fall grants. The grants are up to $1,000 and are offered twice a year.

Applications will be accepted through Sept. 15.

TasteBuds benefits city floral displays

The Annapolis Business Association and the city of Annapolis will present the eighth annual TasteBuds, a culinary event to raise funds for the hanging flower baskets and container gardens that adorn downtown Annapolis.

TasteBuds will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Westin Annapolis Hotel, 100 Westgate Circle. Tickets go on sale Sept. 14.

13 AAMC nurses receive degrees

The College of Notre Dame has awarded 13 Anne Arundel Medical Center nurses with Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees.

The degrees were awarded through a higher educational program offered at AAMC's medical park in Annapolis.

The graduates were registered nurses who enrolled in an RN to BSN program created in 2004 to encourage hospitals to expand educational opportunities for nurses.
