August 24, 2007|By Richard Irwin

Western District police officers responding to shots fired yesterday afternoon on a street a few blocks from the police station found a teenage boy bleeding from at least one gunshot wound. The victim died a short time later at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

The youth's name was being withheld pending notification of his family, police said.

No arrest had been made, and homicide detectives did not know of a motive.

The death brings to 201 the number of homicides in the city this year as of yesterday, compared with 176 for the corresponding period last year, police reported.

Officers found the teenager lying in the 1400 block of Riggs Ave. shortly before 2 p.m. and summoned an ambulance. The station, in the 1000 block of N. Mount St., is four blocks east of where the youth was shot.

The victim was rushed to Shock Trauma, where he died shortly after arriving there, police said.

Metro Crime Stoppers at 410-276-8888 is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the killing.
