Lutheran Village program Sept. 13

The Prime Time Society, an informal group of seniors ages 60 and older affiliated with First Evangelical Lutheran and St. John's Episcopal churches in Ellicott City, will sponsor a presentation on "The Lutheran Village at Miller's Grant," a 50-acre site in Ellicott City to be developed as a nonprofit, faith-based Lutheran retirement community.

Speakers include Geary Milliken, president and CEO of Carroll Lutheran Village, and Steve Stewart, director of marketing.

The event will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 13 in the Fellowship Center at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3604 Chatham Road.

Everyone is welcome. Those who attend are welcome to bring a bag lunch. The church will provide desserts and beverages.

The Prime Time Society meets quarterly for devotions, a program and lunch. Reservations are not required.

Fundraiser concert for an AIDS charity

First Evangelical Lutheran Church will present a performance by "The Predestined," a Ugandan song and dance troupe focused on raising awareness and support for the victims of AIDS.

The performance, which emphasizes endurance and faith, is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Ellicott City church.

An offering will be taken and child sponsorships will be available.

Proceeds will benefit the AIDS Orphan Education Trust, a nongovernmental organization in Uganda providing homes and education to orphans and widows whose parents or spouses have died of AIDS.

Admission is free but registration is requested.

Jewish Family Fun Fest set Sept. 9

The third annual Howard County Jewish Family Fun Fest - with roving entertainment, family relay events, a teen klezmer band, a Moon Bounce, crafts and a firetruck - will be held from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Meeting House, 5885 Robert Oliver Place, Columbia.

The cost is $10 a family through Aug. 31; $15 a family from Sept. 1 and at the door. There may be an extra charge for some events.

Food, including ice cream and dinner, will be available for purchase.

The festival is sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Howard County, the Parent Resource Place of Jewish Family Services in Howard County, and area Jewish schools and synagogues.

Ellicott City native Beck to perform

Ellicott City native Sara Beck will perform at Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbia's One World Coffeehouse at 7 p.m. tomorrow.

Beck, who lives and works in Nashville, Tenn., is a graduate of Centennial High School. Her husband, Park Chisolm, will join her in the show, as will Dan Buchner of the Kactus Boys.

The concert will be held at Owen Brown Interfaith Center, 7246 Cradlerock Way, Columbia.

Admission is $12.

Ice cream social, Tot Shabbat set

Beth Shalom Congregation, 8070 Harriet Tubman Lane, Columbia, will hold a Tot Shabbat for young children to age 5 and an ice cream social at 7 p.m. today.

The event offers an opportunity to meet other families with young children and learn about membership in the congregation.

Bag sale is on in Ellicott City

The Trinity Gift & Thrift Shoppe at Pfeiffer's Corner, 6010 Waterloo Road, Ellicott City, is holding a bag sale this month.

Customers can fill a shopping bag with clothing or other items for $3.

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

Rental space open at flea mart

Space is available to rent at the flea market sponsored by Christ Episcopal Church, to be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at the church, 6800 Oakland Mills Road, Columbia.

The rain date is Sept. 29.

The cost is $8 a space; $13 for two; $18 for three; and $23 for four. Five spaces cost $28.

Church offers Christian aerobics

Body & Soul Christian Aerobics offers eight-week sessions of cardio and strength training set to contemporary Christian music.

A class is offered at 9:30 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at South Columbia Baptist Church.

There is a fee; a discount is available for new students.

Church seeks DVDs, book donations

Shepherd of the Glen Lutheran Church, 14551 Burntwoods Road, Glenwood, is collecting books, videos, CDs, DVDs and records for its 11th Media Sale.

Donated items can be left in or around the blue box at the parking lot-side entrance to the church, if rain is not expected. Tax statement forms are inside the lid of the box.

If a car is parked near the door (and the door is unlocked), donations can be placed on any table inside the church.

Encyclopedias and copies of Reader's Digest or National Geographic are not accepted.
