Babachenko to teach ballet at SOTA

The Westminster Ballet Theatre (WBT) and State of the Arts Dance & Music Center (SOTA) will host Yevgen Babachenko, male soloist for the Moscow Ballet, for two days of free master dance classes at the State of the Arts studio, 90 Aileron Court, Westminster.

This is Babachenko's second year performing in Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker U.S. Tour. Babachenko, 24, is a graduate of the Moscow State Academy of Choreography. This year, he will perform the role of Fritz in The Nutcracker.

Babachenko will be at SOTA studios to film the new children's choreography training DVD for the ballet's 2007 U.S. tour.

The Moscow Ballet has selected students from State of the Arts Dance & Music Center to appear in the DVD, which will be distributed to the more than 60 cities on the tour.

Babachenko also will conduct master classes at SOTA Aug. 26 to Aug. 28. WBT and SOTA will offer these classes free to the public.

The classes are offered free to participants through grants from Martin and Kelly Hill, Ken Holnicker, the Carroll County Arts Council and Lauren Myers of Melaleuca, the Wellness Company.
