Eric Shellhouse of Linthicum Heights asks: "[Are] the worst of the August heat waves behind us, with the 95+ temps and high humidity?" Can't say for sure. The 90s are common in August; 100s are not. But three-day runs of 97+ weather set records in 1948, 1953 and 1968 - all after the 22nd. And we hit 105 at BWI on Aug. 20, 1983. But hang in there. Long-term average temperatures are falling in August. On paper, it only gets cooler from here on in.
