Blue Jays update

Toronto has persevered through injuries to many of its top players and remains in the American League wild-card race, even after last night's 4-3 loss at home to the Los Angeles Angels. The Blue Jays have won five of their past eight and are in third place in the AL East, two games over .500. They have relied mostly on their starting pitching. Through Wednesday, Toronto starters were 18-8 with a 3.30 ERA since the All-Star break. A.J. Burnett, tonight's starter, held the Kansas City Royals to one earned run in his last start after spending about 1 1/2 months on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain. Toronto's offense has struggled, totaling just 18 runs in the past seven games. Third baseman Troy Glaus returned to the lineup Wednesday after missing two games with plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
