Smoking cessation classes offered

Howard County General Hospital will offer an eight-session "Freedom from Smoking" class from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., beginning Sept. 5, at the hospital's Wellness Center, Suite L-9, 11055 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia. Participants will receive a class schedule at the first meeting. The cost is $60.

"Strengthening Families by Moving through Anger," a six-week class teaching techniques to manage the situations that trigger each person's anger, meets from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 5 through Oct. 10, in the Wellness Center. The cost is $25.

A class in self-defense for young women, ages 12 to 15, will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sept. 8 in the Wellness Center. The cost is $30.

A free Vision and Hearing Screening, for those ages 7 to adult, is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 12 in the Wellness Center.
