Elmer M. Feete, 95

Owned casket company

August 16, 2007

Elmer Marshall Feete, former owner of the Warfield-Rohr Casket Co., died Sunday of complications from an infection at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. The Parkville resident was 95.

After World War II, Mr. Feete joined the business, which had been established in 1870.

In 1907, the business, which also sold funeral supplies and was in the 300 block of N. Calvert St., was purchased by the Feete family. In the late 1980s, the family-owned business moved to new headquarters on West Patapsco Avenue.

"He had a great sense of humor," said his daughter, Marsha L. Ayres of Bowleys Quarters. "He loved telling people that they made and sold wooden overcoats and underground bungalows."

Mr. Feete retired in 1977.

He was born in Middletown and moved in 1913 with his family to a home in the 1700 block of N. Caroline St. After graduating from City College in 1930, he drove a delivery truck for Liquid Carbonic Co. During World War II, he worked for Standard Oil Co. in Canton.

The former Sheldon Avenue resident, who moved to a home in Cromwell Valley in 1957, was an avid gardener and golfer. He also liked powerboating and fishing and crabbing on the Indian River in Delaware.

Since 2000, he had lived at Oak Crest Village in Parkville.

"Even the need for a motorized wheelchair did not stop this kindhearted man from spreading his humorous stories or discussing the status of the Orioles," his daughter said.

He was a member of the Sons of Italy, Hasslinger Club and Hunt Valley Golf Club.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today in the chapel at Oak Crest Village, 8800 Walther Blvd.

Also surviving are his wife of 33 years, the former Leigh Riccuitti; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A son, Charles Feete, died last year, and his first wife of 34 years, the former Caroline Hancock, died in 1968.
