Play it again -- Orioles 6, Red Sox 3, 10 innings

Capping rally

The Orioles scored 12 runs after the seventh inning in the series, including a two-run homer by Miguel Tejada in the eighth yesterday off Red Sox reliever Eric Gagne that tied the game at 3. Kevin Millar provided the last three by launching a curveball from Kyle Snyder in the 10th after Corey Patterson and Nick Markakis singled and Tejada fouled out to first. Millar's walk-off homer allowed the Orioles to win their first series from the Red Sox since 2005.

Still searching

Anyone remember Steve Trachsel's last victory? You have to go back to June 8 against the Colorado Rockies. He's winless in his past nine starts. Trachsel went 6 1/3 innings yesterday, allowing three runs and 10 hits. Manny Ramirez gave the Red Sox a 2-1 lead in the third inning with a two-run double after Kevin Youkilis walked and David Ortiz doubled. Doubles by Jason Varitek and Julio Lugo in the fourth accounted for the other run.

Near accident

Trachsel was lucky that he didn't end up with spike marks on his body while chasing a foul ball in the fifth inning. Pitchers usually back away from the action, but Trachsel sprinted across the third base line and toward the visiting dugout, then went into a late slide to avoid catcher Paul Bako, who made the catch to retire Ortiz. There was mild contact, but nothing serious, and Trachsel strolled back to the mound as if nothing had happened.

On deck

The Orioles hit the road again to begin a three-game series against the New York Yankees in the Bronx. The Yankees have won 11 of 13 games to maintain pressure on the first-place Boston Red Sox in the American League East. They'll send Chien-Ming Wang to the mound tonight to oppose rookie Jeremy Guthrie. The question is, who will follow Wang the next two games? Both slots are listed as undecided.
