Health Department offering free series of immunization clinics

To help parents get their children ready for the new school year, the county Department of Health is offering free immunizations at a series of clinics.

Dr. Pierre N.D. Vigilance, the county health officer, said that making sure children are up to date on their immunizations is part of the back-to-school routine.

All clinics require appointments, except for two scheduled walk-in clinics.

Parents must bring a copy of their child's immunization record to the appointments.

The clinics will be held today through Sept. 19 at health and resource centers throughout Baltimore County.

Ramp from southbound I-95 to Beltway to close six nights

The ramp from southbound Interstate 95 to westbound Baltimore Beltway (Interstate 695) in the northeast area will be closed to traffic between seven and 11 hours for six nights, beginning this weekend.

The closures will allow the contractors to set steel girders for a portion of the new I-95/I-695 interchange as part of the Interstate 95 Express Toll Lanes project, Maryland Transportation Authority officials said.

The right lane of southbound I-95 between Route 43 and the Beltway also will be closed, weather permitting, officials said.

The six-night closure will be in effect from 10 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday; from midnight Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday; and from 10 p.m. Monday through 5 a.m. Thursday.

Authority officials said that this weekend is the first of a series of scheduled closures planned throughout the project.

The first phase of the interchange is expected to be completed in 2010.
