Cheryl L. Niemann, who worked in insurance sales and lived in Sykesville, died Tuesday of liver failure at Carroll Hospice. She was 51.

Cheryl Branick was born in Baltimore. She spent her early years in the Woodmoor section of Baltimore County before moving to Sykesville in 1966.

A 1974 graduate of South Carroll High School, she attended what is now the Catonsville campus of the Community College of Baltimore County and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Ms. Niemann worked at Noxell Corp. in Hunt Valley as a cosmetic products tester before her 1982 marriage to Frank Niemann. The couple moved to Louisville, Ky., and she went to work for UPS.

After returning to Baltimore in 1995, she was a UPS supervisor in Catonsville. In recent years, she sold supplemental medical insurance for Aetna Insurance Co. and Humana Insurance Co.

Ms. Niemann enjoyed reading and going to the beach. She also was involved with the Freedom Soccer youth recreation program in Eldersburg.

"She was known as `Sherry Sunshine' for her ability to show up, and the sun would shine," said Jill Zarend-Kubatko, a longtime friend who lives in Maricopa, Ariz. "Before she fell ill, she was constantly driving her two daughters to soccer, indoor soccer and lacrosse practices and games."

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Haight Funeral Home, 6416 Sykesville Road.

In addition to her husband in Westminster, Mrs. Niemann is survived by two daughters, Nicole E. Niemann and Rachel C. Niemann, of Sykesville; her mother, Carole J. Olfe Branick, of Sykesville; a brother, Kurt A. Branick, of Sykesville; a sister, Karen A. Martinez, of Palm City, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
