Devil Rays update

Tampa Bay is 3-3 on its current nine-game homestand after taking two of three games against Toronto. The Devil Rays are only 13-26 against AL East foes. They are also coming off a July in which they went 7-20, their worst July in club history. It wasn't the fault of B.J. Upton, who hit .362 for the month, eighth best in the American League and third best in club history. Carlos Pena also tied the club record with eight home runs for the month. Carl Crawford was out for three games with a sprained right wrist, but he is 5-for-8 with two home runs in his past three games. Trying to upgrade their bullpen which has the worst ERA in the majors, the Devil Rays acquired Grant Balfour and Dan Wheeler before the trade deadline. The Devil Rays are 1-8 against the Orioles this season and have lost seven straight games to them.
