OGDEN SIGHTING

Offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden (above) made a brief appearance during the morning practice session, jogging from sideline to sideline on one of the practice fields. He's a long way from practicing, but the sight of Ogden doing something physical is a good sign.

BLAME THE SUN

During the morning session, rookie wide receiver Yamon Figurs dropped a pass from rookie quarterback Troy Smith that slipped through Figurs' hands, bounced off his chest and fell to the turf. The miscue elicited the loudest groan from fans.

HITS KEEP COMING

A day after cornerback Derrick Martin leveled running back P.J. Daniels, safety Gerome Sapp delivered a similar pop on tight end Marcus Freeman, who was trying to stretch a catch in the right flat into more yardage. Sapp's defensive teammates pounced on Sapp, congratulating him for the tackle.

QUOTABLE

"I think he should be All-Pro by year three." - Defensive end Trevor Pryce when asked to summarize his thoughts on the development of second-year defensive tackle Haloti Ngata.

INJURIES

Ogden (turf toe), linebackers Mike Smith (shoulder surgery) and Dan Cody (knee), fullback Justin Green (knee surgery) and Michael Kracalik (sprained ankle) are on the physically-unable-to-perform list and did not practice. Defensive tackle Kelly Gregg (right thigh bruise), guard Ben Grubbs (right knee sprain) and tight end Quinn Sypniewski (stomach flu) also were absent. Linebacker Antwan Barnes injured his right ankle in the afternoon and was carted off the field.
