Hearing planned for HAZMAT fee schedule
The Harford County Division of Emergency Operations will hold a public hearing on a proposal to adopt a Haz Mat and Administrative Fee Schedule pursuant to Section 807 of the Harford County Charter.
The hearing will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Division of Emergency Operations, 2220 Ady Road in Forest Hill.
The public can review the proposed Haz Mat and Administrative Fee Schedule from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Harford County EOC.
The public may also submit written comments regarding the proposed fee schedule before the hearing. Comments should be addressed to Deputy Manager Larry Mabe at the Division of Emergency Operations, 2220 Ady Road, Forest Hill, 21050.

Area elderly plan to be discussed Friday
The Harford County Office on Aging will hold a public hearing on its Area Plan for Services for the Elderly for July 1, 2008, to June 30, 2011, at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the McFaul Activities Center, 525 W. MacPhail Road, Bel Air.
The Area Plan, which the Office on Aging submits to the Maryland Department of Aging, specifies how the office will plan, coordinate and fund services for the elderly in Harford County.
Included in the plan are the Office on Aging's goals for senior information and assistance, in-home services, health, legal services, the ombudsman program, senior activity centers and nutrition programs.
All senior citizens and those interested in the future of services for senior citizens in Harford County are urged to attend.

Emergency training offered next week
The Harford County Division of Emergency Operations and Local Emergency Planning Committee will co-sponsor a series of free training sessions focusing on Incident Command in a Disaster Situation the week of July 23.
The Command School TTX of Lancaster, Pa., has been contracted to teach the courses using the Abbottville Tabletop Simulator.
Firefighters, police officers, health workers, HAZMAT officials and other emergency field workers are encouraged to take the one-day courses at the Level Volunteer Fire Company in Havre de Grace.
Government elected and administrative officials also are encouraged to attend the sessions.
Training includes sessions from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Major Highway and Transportation Incidents July 23; Law Enforcement Scenarios July 24, plus Fire/Emergency Medical Service Scenarios from 7 to 10 p.m. that day; EOC/LEPC Operations' Flu Pandemic Scenario July 25; HAZMAT and Weapons of Mass Destruction Scenarios July 26; and Detention Center/Mass Arrest Scenarios July 27.
The classes are open to anyone who may be involved in some way with the planning for, or response to, any emergency or catastrophic event.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Snacks and drinks will be offered for the evening class.
Those unable to attend the primary group session can register for another one of the week's courses. Registration is required by Friday at 410-638-4900.
Applicants will be asked to list a total number from their agency attending, a contact person and a phone number.

Tollgate yard waste site will be closed
The Harford County Bureau of Solid Waste Management reminds residents that the Yard Waste Drop-Off Site at 703 N. Tollgate Road will be closed July 23 to July 31.
The site will be closed for the Harford County Farm Fair, which takes place in the immediate vicinity that week.
Homeowners may continue to drop off yard waste at the Harford Waste Disposal Center's Composting Facility at 3135 Scarboro Road in Street. Hours are from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
The composting facility accepts grass clippings (yard waste), leaves, branches up to six inches in diameter and six feet in length, brush and organic garden trimmings.

Published poet hosts writer's workshop
The Havre de Grace Activity Center will hold a Weekly Writer's Workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays during July at 351 Lewis Lane.
The workshop will be led by Karol Bloch, a published poet. The workshop is free and open to all ages.
