Chemists group elects McCrary

Victor R. McCrary Jr. has been elected president of the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers. His two-year term begins this month.

A member of the organization since he was an undergraduate chemistry student at Catholic University, McCrary served as the organization's vice chair and is also a past president.

He will oversee the organization's 35th International Conference next year in Philadelphia.

McCrary is the business area executive for science and technology at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in North Laurel. He was previously chief of the Convergent Information Systems Division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

The Clarksville resident serves on the board of j-ref in Howard County.

Hospital auxiliary re-elects Slahetka

Alicia Slahetka, a hospital volunteer since 1990, has been re-elected as president of the Volunteer Auxiliary of Howard County General Hospital.

Kevin Harbula was elected vice president; Richard M. Davis, treasurer; and Mary Chiu, secretary.
