Angels update

The Angels have a major league-best 49 wins and hold a five-game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the American League West. However, they are coming off a three-game sweep at home by the Kansas City Royals. Before that, they had won 16 of 21 games in June, a stretch that started when the Angels took the last three games of a four-game series with the Orioles. The Angels have 60 home runs, the fourth fewest in the AL, but they are batting .291, second best in the league. Outfielder Reggie Willits ranks fifth in the league in batting with a .337 average, and Vladimir Guerrero is ninth at .330. The Angels' team ERA is 3.86, the third best in the AL. Lackey, who has experienced shoulder soreness, has one win in his past four starts after beating the Orioles on June 1 for his fifth straight victory. Escobar has lost once in his past seven starts, and that came against the Orioles.
