Yankees update

The Yankees appeared to have finally found their form when they started June by winning 13 of their first 16 games, including nine straight at one point. But just as quickly as their run at the first-place Boston Red Sox started to pick up steam, New York has again fallen on hard times, losing five of its past six, including a three-game sweep by the Colorado Rockies. It is no fault of third baseman Alex Rodriguez, who was 9-for-13 with a home run and four RBIs in the weekend series against the San Francisco Giants and has nine home runs and 32 RBIs in 23 games this month. He also has raised his average 41 points in June. Shortstop Derek Jeter has been fighting a left hip flexor injury, and center fielder Johnny Damon (abdominal strain) has started just twice in the past five games. Clemens is 19-11 with a 3.46 ERA in 44 career starts against the Orioles, but he hasn't faced them since 2003. Pettite has dominated the Orioles over his career with a 20-5 record and a 3.77 ERA in 30 career games.
