Despite threatening skies, the Centennial Fun Run began its 29th season Tuesday with 140 participants, said organizer Arleen Dinneen.

"It was great. We were worried that we might not be able to hold it because of the weather. But we did, and it was a wonderful crowd," Dinneen said.

The one-mile run though the neighborhood across from Centennial High School begins and ends in front of Dinneen's house, on Colonial Drive.

Dinneen said the summer tradition is a "Howard County Striders' event. It would not be possible without their support."

There are 12 age categories, ranging from 5 and younger to 60 and older, and there is a 50-cent charge to participate.

Here are the remaining Fun Run dates:

June 26: 7:30 p.m. (Princeton Sports will sponsor a bike safety and helmet safety exhibit.)

July 10: 7:30 p.m. (Good Neigh "bear" and 911 Simulator, courtesy of Scott McGrew, State Farm. Children will practice talking with a 911 operator.)

July 17: 7:30 p.m. (Report card night and Pets on Wheels visit. Students who take their report cards will be rewarded with ice cream.)
