Eagle Baseball School to run in 2 sessions

The Centennial High School Boosters will sponsor the Eagle Baseball School, a summer camp program for boys ages 7 to 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays, June 25-29 and July 30 through Aug. 3.

The camp, to be directed by Centennial's boys varsity baseball coach Denis Ahearn, will offer instruction and drills in throwing, hitting, fielding, base running, catching and strategy. Area players and coaches will give lectures and demonstrations.

The emphasis will be on fundamentals, sportsmanship and fun. The program includes contests, treats, a report card and certificates.

The cost is $150 a session; $250 for both with a group discount of $10 for five or more campers registering at the same time.

Craft programs set for teenagers

Summer craft programs for teens are being offered at local libraries.

Registration is scheduled to begin June 28 for "Chain Mail for the Modern Ages," a chance for youngsters ages 11 to 17 to make a piece of chain mail or jewelry from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 12 at the Miller branch library, 9421 Frederick Road, Ellicott City. Rich Suchoski will lead the program. Participants should take a flying disc, if possible.

A "Dance Dance Revolution" (DDR for Teens @ HC Library) event for teens ages 13 to 17 is planned from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 9 and Aug. 16 at the Miller branch. "Pins and Needles," also at the Miller branch, offers youngsters ages 11 to 17 a chance to work on current projects or bring a skein of yarn and learn to knit and crochet. The group will meet from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 30. Registration is to begin July 16.

"Scrapbook Pages," also for those from 11 to 17, offers the opportunity to create a page of photographs for an album from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. July 3 at the Elkridge library, 6540 Washington Blvd., Elkridge. Registration is to begin Tuesday.

"Animation Basic," for those from 11 to 17, will be offered from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. July 16 at the Elkridge library. All materials will be provided. Registration is scheduled to start July 2.

Library board to meet Wednesday

The Howard County Library's board of trustees will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Meeting Room at the Elkridge library, 6540 Washington Blvd., Elkridge.

Gardening queries -- Howard County Master Gardeners will be at the Miller branch library to answer gardening questions and examine problem plants from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Mondays and 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Residents are invited to bring questions and plants. 410-313-1950.

Sunset Serenades -- Comcast and Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will present Sunset Serenades 2007 at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, through Aug. 15, at Centennial Park South. Junkyard Saints will play zydeco music this week. Take a blanket or lawn chair and a picnic. The park's concession stand will be open. Parking is $3 a vehicle. The library will sponsor an American Girls Summer Social for girls ages 5 and older, with stories, games and a summer craft, at 11 a.m. June 28. Registration is to begin Thursday. 410-313-5085.

Knitting for charity -- A community-service group meets to knit and crochet blankets, baby clothes and other items for charities, hospitals and senior centers. The group meets from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at Kiwanis-Wallas Recreation Center. 410- 313-7279.

Registration -- Hollifield Station Elementary School will register children of families in the school's district for the 2007-2008 school year from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays, June 27 through Aug. 15. Offices will be closed July 4.
