Orioles' Trade Bait?

June 16, 2007|By JEFF ZREBIEC

The major league trade deadline is July 31, more than a month away, but if their losing ways continue, the Orioles could have a different look by the end of the season. Here are some players who could be on the move:

GOOD SHOT

Kevin Millar, 1B/DH On a one-year deal, he could provide a contender with versatility, energy and leadership.

Corey Patterson, CF Would-be free agent is unlikely to be back; his combination of speed and defense will attract interest.

Steve Trachsel, SP The Cardinals and Phillies are among teams that could use a reliable veteran.

Todd Williams, RP Teams always could use bullpen help for the stretch run, and Williams has pitched well at times.

Scott Williamson, RP His numbers have been pretty good even though he isn't ideally suited for his current role.

LONG SHOT

Daniel Cabrera, SP The Orioles are trying to stay patient, though if they find a team infatuated with his potential, they could be swayed.

Jay Gibbons, OF/DH Both sides feel a change of scenery may help, but Gibbons' contract and poor numbers make it a tough sell.

Melvin Mora, 3B Teams have contacted the Orioles about Mora, but he has a no-trade clause that he's unlikely to drop.

Miguel Tejada, SS Interest in Tejada isn't as high anymore, making it unlikely a team will again match the Orioles' asking price.
