The lowdown -- Today, the Homewood House museum hosts its annual Crazy For Gin, a celebration of the liquor's history. Nelson Carey and Chris Attenborough from Grand Cru Wine Bar will discuss gin's past and also offer different kinds of the liquor for tasting. WYPR-FM director Andy Bienstock is the master of ceremonies.

Dance party The lowdown -- DJs Matt Walter and Craig Boarman, the minds behind the Ottobar's popular Underground Britpop dance party, are back with a new monthly electro-pop dance party called Automatic. Walter and Boarman will spin, followed by a live set from Brooklyn-based dance punk group Radio 4. There will be $1 mixed drinks, drafts and Natty Bohs until 10:30 p.m.

CD release

The lowdown -- Washington metro pop rock band the Sketches release their new album, Secret Alphabets, at a party at the 8x10 on Saturday. Since it formed in 2005, the band has been compared to the Beatles, Radiohead and U2. Also performing will be electro-rock band Love Whip and pop-rock alternative band Can You Keep a Secret.
