Trip to Soho

TAKEOUT

June 13, 2007|By Sam Sessa | Sam Sessa,Sun reporter

The southern stretch of Light Street in Federal Hill is steadily attracting a diverse blend of solid restaurants.

The Soho Eatery, a Japanese, Korean and sushi restaurant/carryout, is the most recent addition.

best bite

If you're extra hungry or want to share with a friend, go for the Chirashi, $13.60. More than 20 pieces of sliced sashimi came on a bed of sticky white sushi rice. The assortment of soft, fresh-tasting seafood included tuna, red snapper, salmon and shrimp. The size of this order makes it a good deal, considering the price.

Also tasted

From the Korean section of the menu, we tried bul kogi - marinated and broiled chopped beef - $9.40. The meat was rich and hearty and came with sides of white rice and chopped vegetables.

We were less than impressed with the seaweed salad, $4.73. The crisp chopped seaweed was dotted with orange roe, but we hoped for a larger portion.

The eatery also offers eight smoothies. We went for a medium-sized blueberry banana smoothie, which was thick, fruity and filling but, thankfully, not too sweet. It cost $4.46.
