Rowing Inner Harbor laps, without pause

Al Freihofer's effort Saturday to raise money to help a dog rescue group

June 13, 2007|By John Woestendiek | John Woestendiek,sun reporter

Last summer, Al Freihofer row, row, rowed his boat 452 miles in 13 days from Troy, N.Y., to Baltimore, raising about 14 cents for each stroke of his oars (128,000, he estimates), or $18,000 in all for the school where he teaches - no, not math - English.

This week, Freihofer, 55, is rowing for dollars again - this time not for his school, but for dogs.

If you go Row for Rescue, to benefit Recycled Love, takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Inner Harbor
