Public schools set closing dates

Carroll County public schools has announced the schools' closing dates for 2006-2007.

The school year will end as follows: Tuesday, last day for kindergarten students; Wednesday, two-hour early dismissal for students, professional time for teachers; Thursday, last day for students, two-hour early dismissal for students, professional time for teachers; June 15, professional day for teachers, last duty day.

School board to meet Wednesday

The Carroll County Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Room 007 of the board offices, 125 N. Court St., Westminster.

Meetings will be broadcast on CETV, Channel 21 on Comcast cable TV and repeated at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sunday and the following Thursday and 9 a.m. Saturday.

Program honors adult education

The Carroll Adult Learning Connection, a program of Carroll County public schools, will hold an Adult Graduate Recognition Ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Westminster High School.

Adult education programming in Carroll County offers adults two ways to earn a high school diploma: the External Diploma Program (EDP), and the General Educational Development (GED) Testing program.

Among those participating in the ceremony are: Kathy Beck, Joe Sheeler Jr. and Douglas Headley, EDP graduates; and Ashley Blake, Amber Stanholtzer and Katie Witte, GED graduates.

Graduates will wear caps and gowns and four will speak about their experiences. A reception will be held after the ceremony.

School transfers announced

The Board of Education recently announced the following transfers, effective July 1.

Robert E. Mitchell, principal of Manchester Elementary School, to principal of Ebb Valley Elementary School.

Martin E. Tierney, principal of Carrolltowne Elementary School, to principal of Manchester Elementary School.

Terry L. Ball, principal of Hampstead Elementary School, to principal of Carrolltowne Elementary School.

Deborah C. Bunker, principal of Linton Springs Elementary School, to principal of Mount Airy Elementary School.

Suggestions sought for name of school

The Carroll County Board of Education is seeking suggestions for a name for the new high school being built in the Manchester area.

All suggestions must be submitted to the superintendent at 125 N. Court St., Westminster, Md. 21157, by 4 p.m. July 9.

The superintendent will submit a final recommendation to the board for approval. Names should give proper recognition to the school and community of which it will be a part.

Summer classes have openings

Limited openings remain for Summer Kids@Carroll classes for children ages 3 to 14 from June 18 to Aug. 17 at Carroll Community College in Westminster.

Half-day programs are from 9 a.m. to 12 noon or from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Full-day programs include a supervised lunch.
